That was brutal!
Without a doubt the toughest thing I’ve ever done in my life. This race has to be one of the toughest single day sporting events in the world. The suffering the island inflicts will be something I won’t forget in a hurry. The island itself is incredible. It truly is the home of triathlon. In the week leading up to the race there’s people training all day everyday in paradise. The heat is relentless, it just does not cool down! The course is quite eerie.
The swim is warm but clear AF with plenty of marine life below. Swim time: 59min 58 sec
The ride out to Hawi next to the lava fields is pretty cool with smooth roads and 1700m of elevation. Bike Time: 4hr 51min
The run is brutal, the spectators along Ali drive are insane and then again up Palani drive! I could’ve ran on water at that point. Then you head out on the freeway towards the energy lab which is fucking hot! If the questions hadn’t already started I was certainly trying to remember why the hell I was doing this about 30 clicks deep on the run. The rollercoaster of emotions you go through is pretty funny. Run Time: 3hr 26min
Hitting that finish line will be a memory that I’ll cherish forever. Finish Time 9hr 27min
Photos speak for itself. I can honestly say that I had nothing more to give on the day and I’m stoked with the result. I’d like to thank X man from TEAM Tri Coaching for his coaching and guidance to get me to that finish line.
You have believed in me from day one and your continued support never waivers. There’s absolutely no doubt that your programs work. I’ll continue to listen to your advice as I work through knocking off each of your PB’s. If Kona is a goal of anyone reading this then he is your man.
Next is one of my best mates Jack Ray, We’ve got such an uncanny knack of finishing so close together. We race completely differently but yet always seem to cross that line within sight of each other. I love training with you mate, always pushing me and constantly fixing my bike. The lead up, the race and the whole holiday is one I’ll never forget. You had an amazing race and its ridiculous how hard you can push yourself. Thanks mate bloody love ya! I leave Hawaii with no regrets, I had a crack. Plenty to improve on. I’ll be back one day! Onto the next one.
